Thousands of pets are abandoned or surrendered every year by loving owners who want to keep them but can't afford an unexpected veterinary bill. Teeth cleaning, a single tooth abcess, a broken paw, a bite from another dog, or even a simple cold is often enough to mean the end of a perfect relationship.
Pet owners, especially seniors, often experience the heartbreak of veterinary expenses they just can't afford. Seniors will often sacrifice their own food and even medicines to care for their beloved pets. For many senior pet owners, their pets aren't just a part of their life. Their pet is their daily companion and often their only source of joy and love.
The mission of Heart to Heart Pet Aid & Wellness (Heart to Heart PAW), an IRS approved 501(c)3 nonprofit, is to assist with unexpected pet healthcare expenses so the pet owner or caregiver and pet can stay together. Our goal is to support the pet owner to prevent the forced surrender of a pet into the already overcrowded shelters or even euthanasia due only to lack of funds for common veterinary care.
Above most other reasons to own a pet, companionship is the most common answer. All pets require attention and owners must understand their responsibilites.
